KUALA
National University of Singapore berkenaan, mereka seakan-akan
mempersenda kedatangan Ramadan apabila memuat naik gambar sedang

The infamous "sex bloggers", Alvin Tan and Vivian Lee, are at it again. The main difference this time is that they are fully clothed.
The notorious duo caused a major scandal last October when their ‘sex-blog’ containing their naked photos and videos of their multiple romps, went viral in Singapore and Malaysia.
This time around, they seem intent on causing offence to the Muslim community while the community is observing one of the holiest periods of their calendar, the month of Ramadhan.
In a photo posted on their Facebook fanpage, the pair is seen enjoying a meal of ‘Bak Kut Teh’, a popular dish in which the main ingredient is pork - a meat that is expressly forbidden to Muslims. The common Ramadhan greeting of 'Selamat Berbuka Puasa' (Happy Fast Breaking) appeared at the top with the Malaysian 'Halal' logo embellished on the photo.
The photo also carried the following caption:
(Allow us to introduce our way of inculcating the the spirit of 1Malaysia and that is by exchanging food between the races in Malaysia during this holy celebration. The right to enjoy local delicacies should cross the boundaries of race and also religion. To Muslims, happy breaking fast and Salam Aidilfitri - Your friends, Alvin and Vivian)
Reactions on Facebook
The photo caused an immediate backlash from both Muslims and non-Muslims who slammed the couple for their deliberate insult of Muslims and abuse of the 'Halal' logo.
Here are some of the more scathing comments that the photo elicited:
“I pity your lame effort of gaining cheap publicity by insulting others. Crass.”
- Elly Yusof
"Can we just ignore this shameless couple? They do not represent the Malaysian Chinese, they are the worst garbage... no respect for others and their own families."
- Hazel Sia
"Ur trick wont make me sceptical to my chinese friend. This doesnt work. I think both of u have some sort of mental illness. Btw tanjung rambutan is ready for u."
- Farzana Zamry
"Please respect my Muslim friends ! I am ashamed of you two! Put them into jail!"
- Choi Khiat Ong
Delegitimise the hatred
Social activist and human rights advocate, Wong Chin Huat, however disagreed with calls to jail the duo.
In a Facebook post, he drew parallels with a 2009 incident where extremist Muslims paraded a severed cow's head - an animal sacred to Hindus - in protest to a decision by the Selangor state government to allow for a relocation of a Hindu Temple to a land next to a mixed neighbourhood.
Wong dismissed Alvin and Vivian as "trolls" who "any sense of sensitivity and responsibility" and were considerably less worse "than the cow head thugs who threatened to start riots and torch houses of worship".
He also warned against those who may seek to use this incident as a cause to condemn the freedom of expression, rather than condemn bigotry and violence.
Wong further noted that while most Malaysians and civil society groups were quick to condemn the 2009 cow head action, they were not provoked into a knee-jerk reaction that would have heightened ethnic and religious tensions.
Instead, civil society groups made a deliberate decision to help de-legitimise bigotry, hatred and violence by organising a solidarity fast with their fellow Muslims.
Wong advocated that another common day of fasting be organised to build solidarity and understanding in the wake of this latest act of provocation.
"If we are strong, then no enemy can be too strong for us," he added.
